Week 23 Recap & Suggested Assignments

One more week to go.......where did the time go????

PARENTS:  I need your child's point totals ASAP so I have time to shop for awards.  If you could get them to me by the end of the day Wednesday the 26th (on last week's blog & also emailed), I'd really appreciate it!  Also, I need a photo & bio their paper by April 1 so we can get them sent off to be printed & bound.  As I'v mentioned in previous emails & in class, I need these emailed.  If I have to scan a document, it doesn't come out as clear. 

~~GRAMMAR~~
I decided to move a little ahead and cover OCN & OCA sentences this week so we could play games & have a party on our last week!  Please let me know if you'd like to bring in some treats to share!

Structure: Compound-Complex  Purpose: All  Pattern: S-Vt-IO-DO, S-Vt-DO-OCN & OCA

I'm so proud of your continued efforts on these tricky sentences.  Remember - push yourselves as far as you can go!!!  You've come a long way!

    OCN (diagrammed all together as a phrase)
"Class of the Year"!

We played "What's My Mood" deciphering what the verb mood was for each sentence.  You guys were on it - & so were the Mom's with Mrs. Smith scoring a point for the parents!

~~WRITING~~
Lesson Ancient History Based Writing Lesson 19 (writing from pictures- this will be our last paper of the year! We brainstormed "central fact" ideas about what was going on in the pictures.  You all worked on coming up with an idea for your story.

Mastery Charts:
Review all previous mastery charts at least once focusing on those you have not mastered.  You'll be taking your "final" test @ home next week.

WE'LL BE PLAYING REVIEW GAMES NEXT WEEK - ANY MATERIAL IN THE MASTERY CHARTS, HANDOUTS ETC WILL BE "FAIR GAME" (including diagramming, vocal & IEW terms!) - SO STUDY UP & BE READY!!!!  That includes you too Moms! 

~~Writing~~
1. Cut out & learn lesson 19 vocab.  YOU'LL BE TAKING YOUR FINAL TEST NEXT WEEK

You'll be following the same steps we went over in class (similar to last week - asking yourself the questions to get the detail).  Remember to use good 5 sense verbs & adjectives so your reader gets a good mental picture!  Use those transitions words & stylistic techniques to enhance your paper!  Try using the techniques we learned today - dual ly, verbs & adverbs.  Just remember a little goes a long way.  Help us to know what your character(s) are thinking & feeling - what is the setting like, etc?  Do your best.

You'll also need to work in final revisions on your "If I lived in Ancient Times" paper.  Be sure to use your SRN & read your papers to a family member for feedback!!!  We'll be reading these next week.

WED - KWO all paragraphs & draft 1st paragraph
THURS - draft  2nd & 3rd paragraphs
FRI - begin revisions (highlighting all to be verbs etc), look for appropriate places to add personification, dual verbs, adverbs or ly words - read your story aloud to your family for feedback
MON - finish final revisions

I'll be taking a group photo next week, so be sure to brush your hair & your teeth!! :)
