Week 15 Recap & Suggested Assignments

First of all - hats off to you all!  We looked at some tricky sentences and you handled them like pros!!!  Nicely done class!

~~GRAMMAR~

Sentence Structure: Complex  Sentence Purpose: Interrogative  Sentence Pattern: S-Vt-IO-DO

EEL Model Sentence: Did Jesus, who made you a home, make me a crown?

We looked at complex, interrogative sentences and learned how to diagram those with our S-Vt-IO-DO pattern.

Finding the subject in an interrogative sentence can be tricky.  It typically comes after the verb or in between parts of the verb.  The easiest thing to do is change the question into a statement.

We also reviewed INTERJECTIONS!!  Remember interjections are diagrammed on a line above.

~~WRITING~~
Today we learned how to write introductory & conclusion paragraphs for our reports & completed an outline for both.  We also played hangman vocabulary.

FOR A SWEET TREAT: Label & Diagram the following sentence (watch for those tricky words!):

Does the Essentials class, who is taught by the loving Mrs. C, write her stories that are creative and well-written?

1. Cut out & learn lesson 12 vocabulary words. 

WEDNESDAY
Complete KWO for your introductory paragraph & draft.  If you are doing a few introductory sentences, draft those.

THURSDAY
Complete KWO for your conclusion paragraph & draft. Again if you are doing a few sentences, draft those.

FRIDAY
Begin to revise & edit your paragraphs starting with 1st paragraph.  Look to see if you can clearly identify your topics & (read it to a family member- can they tell you what your topics were? ). Look for ways to "smoothly transition" from sentence to sentence & paragraph/topic to paragraph/topic.  (Hint: USE YOUR SRN!!)  Begin with verbs-replacing lame with fabulous!  Then work towards good descriptive words.Revise & edit your first paragraph - again working to replace lame verbs with strong action verbs.  Make your paper come alive!!

MONDAY
Continue to revise & edit! Remember writing is a process :)

Bring in your drafts to class on Tuesday.  We'll work on our drafts & you'll each give a brief presentation on your faces of history person (if you haven't picked someone, you'll need to asap!)
